Sandboxes Aren't Just For Kids - Come Play with HP Integrity

sandbox2.JPGThe weather is warming up here in the northeast, and we are having more sunny days now after a seemingly endless, blizzard-filled, gray, freeze fest of a winter!  Last weekend my 2 year old niece was here visiting, and we spent some time playing at the local tots park.  She loved trying out all the brightly colored push cars and the front-end loader toy where Joe showed her how to scoop sand into the lemon yellow bucket.  It is nice to relax in the sunshine and just play for a while.

Why not play a bit at work too?  It is not always a bad thing, especially if you are in IT and dealing with porting applications and working with tricky code.  The Sandbox will allow you to gain experience with HP porting tools including compilers, debuggers and optimization tools, try out "test" code and better estimate resources required to port applications to HP Integrity servers.  All you have to do is request access to HP's new software porting sandbox

HP Software Porting Sandbox Details:

  • secure environment, accessed via VPN and OS level password
  • 24x7 access to HP Integrity servers with two processors and five 146 GB SAS disk drives
  • Integrity servers run HP-UX 11i v3, HP-UX 11i v2 or OpenVMS8.4
  • technical support and porting assistance from 9:00am to 5:00pm Pacific Time or via email

Who Should Try It:

  • Customers porting a portion of their “custom” code to better understand the code transition process to HP Integrity servers.
  • Customers trying to determine if they have the expertise/experience to do this internally or to use resources outside the company.
  • Customers porting with external resources still wanting to better understand the complexity of the project.
  • Customers at the beginning of the transition process and wanting access to an HP Integrity server to gain practical experience with the transition process.

Go ahead, have some fun in the sand!

While my company has several HP NonStop systems available for dev and QA, many (potential) ISVs for NonStop do not. It would be great if this would be available for HP NonStop !

To complete the picture, I just want to add that HP also provides facilities and consulting services to Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and customers who are interested in porting their applications onto NonStop servers. These services are delivered via HP's NonStop Advanced Technology Center (ATC).

In addition to guiding the ISV / customer on the best suited technology approach for the port, ATC also provides equipment and managed facilities so that the ISV / customer can execute the porting project without having to purchase a NonStop server.
