The new HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 server takes gold

Guest blog written by Brian Lee,  HP Enterprise Servers Product Manager

With the Winter Olympics underway, most (if not all) of us have been keeping tabs on our favorite countries and sports as some of the world’s greatest athletes perform astonishing feats. While I’m fascinated by the grace and beauty of the figure skaters, I’m also riveted to my smart phone and tablet as skiers go flying down the mountainside at breakneck speeds and glued to the computer when the slopestyle snowboarders perform their aerial acrobatics. With billions of people across the globe having access to thousands of hours of Olympic coverage from their various streaming devices, one thing is certain—lots of data is being created - lots of BIG data.

But of course, big data is not unique to the Olympics. Companies are finding the overwhelming volume of information driven largely by the growth in mobility, cloud-based delivery models, multimedia, social media, and security is changing the way to do business. To help manage this change, HP has a full breadth of scale-up x86 capabilities and expertise to deliver the right performance, efficiency, and reliability for your large-scale data-intensive workloads.

In fact, HP has just extended its industry leading ProLiant Scale-up server portfolio with the new HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 Server - further extending mission critical to x86 - and we've got some record-breaking perfomance benchmarks that are, as they say, "Going for gold".

Compared to the previous generation, the HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 server accomplishes:

  • A #1 4P VMmark 2.5.1 benchmark of 34.47 @ 28 tiles[i]
  • 30x faster transaction processing[ii]
  • 45% lower TCO[iii]
  • and 30% greater memory and processor reliability[iv]

Now that's a gold medal performer!  Want to learn more about HP's world-class performance, customer-driven efficiencies, and mission-critical reliability?  Check out the data sheet here.

And check back soon, as the HP ProLiant DL580 Gen8 Server product page will be live shortly!
