Vendor results: CGC 2010-11 UNIX vendor preference survey (see how well HP ranks!)

This is the fourth post in our Gabriel Consulting Group UNIX vendor preference survey podcast series. As you may recall, we recorded several short podcasts to highlight key areas of the UNIX vendor preferences survey that was conducted by the Gabriel Consulting Group.

 

In the first podcast (Commercial UNIX, built for today and engineered for tomorrow) we shed some light on the types of customers using UNIX and how they choose their UNIX vendors. In the second podcast (Considering a UNIX system? Know the top purchase considerations) Dan Olds and HP took a deeper dive into the commercial UNIX buying criteria and the importance of availability and stability to customers when considering a UNIX system.

 

In our third podcast (Vendor results, CGC 2010-11 UNIX vendor preference survey), Dan shared insights into how Linux operating systems match up against HP-UX and how customers use both OEs in their IT environments.

 

In this podcast, Dan talks about the Vendor vs. Vendor results and how HP matches up against the competition in key areas.

 

Dan Olds reveals which UNIX brand performs best in customer datacenters and also which UNIX brand is best in OS quality based on the results of the CGC 2010-11 UNIX vendor preference survey.

 

Dan also shares other results that were uncovered by the survey and which vendor won in the most important categories.

  • Vinay Gupta is an HP Distinguished Technologist and the NonStop Manageability Architect. He joined Tandem in 1994 after graduating from Indian Institute of Technology. He has worked on many NonStop manageability applications over time. He works across various groups within NonStop and HP to ensure consistency and interoperability in manageability interfaces and applications. He is also a member of DMTF workgroups.
  • Wendy Bartlett is a Distinguished Technologist in HP’s NonStop Enterprise Division, and focuses on dependability – security and availability - for the NonStop server line. She joined Tandem in 1978. Her other main area of interest is system architecture evolution. She has an M.S. degree in computer science from Stanford University.
