HP closes 3Com acquisition
Well, it is complete. HP has closed the acquisition of 3Com.
I am definitely looking forward to HP's expanded networking offerings as part of a complete Converged Infrastructure. When I first started at HP Canada as a co-op student, my first business trip was to California to learn about HP AdvancedStack networking products, the predecessor to HP ProCurve networking products. While I've been in the server business since then, I've always took the opportunity to get an update on our networking products when I had the chance. HP is actually the #2 vendor in a lot of the networking market, especially around the edge of the network, and usually offers a very compelling value proposition (and better price) compared to other vendors.
With the close of the 3Com acquisition, the HP networking portfolio is a lot more complete. I'm excited to position it as part of a converged infrastructure. I know that many of the customers I've spoken with are interested in hearing more about it, especially if they have expensive support contracts on their existing network infrastructure. In fact, the way I position it, if you ask HP to participate in your next network refresh, the worst case scenario is that you will likely get a better discount from your existing vendor! In the server market, we're used to competing hard for our customers' business. We hope to bring that same competitiveness to the network market - and a more competitive market is a good thing for customers!
I know that I'm excited!
