HP 9000 Containers - A Customer Story
Earlier this week, I had the chance to have a conversation with a long time HP-UX customer. Like many customers, they are looking at the new HP Integrity blades to upgrade multiple 3 to 5 year old systems. However, we ended up discussing something that many customers also have: they have several legacy applications that are still on HP 9000 PA-RISC servers running HP-UX 11i v1.
It is a story that I've heard many times with different variations. The customer implemented a software package, and it ended up being discontinued, so there is no newer version for HP Integrity servers. However, it still provides an essential function for the business, running away with old hardware, an OS that is several releases behind the current one, and an unsupported application.
