Error Cycle Power

Our HP 8550N cannot get past this message: Error #49.4882 Error Cycle Power. It cannot reach "Ready", and will not show any other message.

Network card and cables are okay. Can ping the Printer's i.p. address over network. Cold Reset brings us back to same point after "Internal Test" (which may or may not be completing).

What should/can we do?

Thank you.

Re: Error Cycle Power

hello Kerry,
49.XXXX errors occasionally occurs because of the defective network card.May be you can ping the network card but if you send huge sizes printouts to the machine.Try to install the printer to a local machine and test the machine for a while. This is gonna tell you if the error is releated with the network card...

Re: Error Cycle Power

Try disconnecting the hard drive.

To do this, remove the board that the jetdirect card is installed onto. On this board you'll see a small silver rectangular box, this is the printer hard drive. Disconnect the cable from the hard drive and reseat the main board and power up.

If the printer comes up to ready then the hard drive most likey in need of replacing.

Re: Error Cycle Power

In reading the different writeups of the problem it seems there is a bad command coming in at boot time:

web site:

The problem could be memory module or the print server card.

The printer is getting an unexpected command on power up. I would remove the memory modules first, power up. If this is not the case disconnect parallel cables, network interface card, and power up. You will have to try to determine which device is sending the bad commands.
