Facilitate remote server manageability: HP ProLiant ML110
Guest blog written by Joe Schmidt – HP Product Line Manager, SMB servers
The HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Server continues to provide great value for customers purchasing entry level servers or those transitioning from desktops or workstations running as servers. It provides an affordable and functional solution for small/medium businesses that are budget-conscious and who have basic or no in-house IT resources.
In keeping with proven HP ProLiant performance, the HP ProLiant ML110 G7 supports the Intel Xeon, Core i3, Pentium & Celeron processors and up to 16GB DDR3 memory to provide enhanced performance. The expandable SAS and SATA storage options set the HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Server apart with support for four non hot-plug LFF HDDs or up to eight hot-plug SFF HDDs (with the optional SFF bay). And the HP Smart Array options provide businesses with RAID mirroring and striping, and hot-plug capability to protect critical data. Two 1Gb NICs, ten USB ports, and four PCIe 2.0 slots give the HP ProLiant ML110 G7 plenty of headroom for growing businesses.
Power and cooling on the HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Server has also been improved to reduce operating costs and improve cooling. The standard 350W power supply is now more efficient and reduces power consumption with high efficiency 460W hot-plug power supplies also available to further reduce power usage. Dave Mitchell’s review in PC Pro documented a test where a system with a 460W power supply fully exercising eight logical cores of a 3.3GHz Xeon E3 processor ran at approximately 100W. The chassis is designed for maximum expandability and is also laid out for ideal air flow with three fans cooling the processor, the hard drive bay and expansion slots. And despite the number of fans the system will run with a noise level at approximately 27.5dBA enabling it to be suitable in front-office environments.
The PC Pro review also states that the HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Server with HP iLO 3 Remote Manageability with the optional management port is well suited for remote control and diagnostics. Far beyond remote control are deployment and intelligent manageability features that enhance the HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Server experience, especially for entry-level server customers who will appreciate the updated version of HP Easy Set UP CD and SmartStart for assistance with OS installation, RAID controller configuration and diagnostics. HP iLO 3 Remote Manageability is a standard component of the HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Server that facilitates remote server manageability to drive down operational costs by reducing server downtime, reducing the number of physical service visits and reducing the number of remote management solutions. An optional TPM Trusted Platform Module also provides an option for advance data security with hardware-based encryption and authentication. Companies with remote locations or branch offices can take full advantage of HP iLO 3 Remote Manageability to decrease server/company downtime and increase productivity.
The HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Server processors and memory options combined with the mix of PCI and PCI-Express slots, storage capacity, drive bays, dual NICs, USB ports and other server options delivers optimum reliability, expandability and performance. And the modular design requires less upfront investment and allows for major components to be removed or installed with minimal effort, These options and features enable the HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Server to be the ideal solution for customers requiring networking, small vertical applications, file-and-print processing, shared internet access and even HPC clusters.
