This morning I am sitting at Narita Airport, on the way to my next stop, Beijing, China, for the launch of our latest processor, the AMD Opteron™ 6200 and 4200 Series processors. But because this blog won’t go live until the launch day, I truly am in transit to the future.

And what a beautiful future is out in front of us.  With the new AMD Opteron processors, HP customers will be able to move their businesses forward with a host of new features that will deliver not only performance and scalability, but also greater efficiency and value.

Today’s data center challenges revolve round driving better efficiency and value for businesses as IT has moved from a simple deployment of services into a partner with the business, responsible for helping drive more agility, shortening decision times and optimizing shareholder value.

HP ProLiant servers help customers get the most of their IT investment, and with the addition of new AMD Opteron processors into the existing platforms, there is an opportunity for customers to move to these new powerhouse processors without having to go through an extensive requalification. The existing HP ProLiant G7 platforms will be able to seamlessly move to our latest generation of processors, meaning that customers can deploy both G7 server based on our previous generation side by side with G7 servers based on the new processors, making managing a growing data center even easier.

So what does this latest generation of processors bring to HP ProLiant servers?  Plenty!

Performance – up to 71% more performance than existing AMD Opteron 6100 Series processors through a combination of new features including up to 16 cores, the new Flex FP that delivers 256-bit floating point capabilities, and AMD Turbo CORE technology, allowing up to 500MHz of clock speed boost across all cores, or up to 1GHz+ of boost when half of the cores are in idle.

Scalability – up to 40% more memory throughput than existing AMD Opteron 6100 Series processors, memory expandability that now reaches up to 384GB/CPU and speeds of up to 1600MHz to help ensure that HPC, virtualization and business analytics get the maximum performance as workloads increase.

Efficiency – up to 20% lower platform power at idle through our new C6 power state as well as support for new ultra low voltage DDR-3 DIMMs means that customers can maximize their data center power footprint. And with new low processor pricing, your HP ProLiant servers will allow you to take advantage of all of the performance and scalability features while maximizing that most precious resource – your IT budget.

While it feels like these new processors are pushing HP ProLiant servers even further into the future, it’s a short flight from where you are now. Available today, these servers will allow you to immediately harvest their benefits for your highly scalable applications and environment: HPC, virtualization, database/analytics and web/cloud.

With so many new features being delivered with such great value in the same platforms that you are already deploying today, it would be crazy not to embrace the future with your next server purchase, taking advantage of all that these new HP ProLiant servers have to offer.
