Nebula Finds a Better Price Performance Ratio to Support Parallel Workloads: HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8

Nebula , founded in 2011 in Palo Alto, California, is a start-up technology firm that emerged from the team that created OpenStack at NASA. Its mission is to enable all businesses to deploy large private-cloud computing infrastructures easily, securely, and inexpensively.

Nebula recently certified the HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 servers to provide the high-performance computing environment needed to run genome and genetic sequencing at biotech companies. Nebula chose the HP DL380p Gen 8 servers because of their price-to-performance ratio, their reliability, and their ability to handle the kind of parallel workloads required by genomic sequencing. This offering enables biotech companies to provide lower-cost genome sequencing for personalized medicine to help predict the likelihood of diseases such as cancer and to study predictive patterns that could provide information for finding a cure.

“Together, Nebula and HP are enabling biotech firms to pursue a future where personalized medicine using genomic sequencing will be available and affordable for the average person,” says Devin Carlen, Chief Technology Officer at Nebula, “This research can help detect diseases like cancer, and perhaps even help to find a cure.”

IT improvements include:

  • Reduces server management and administration through the Nebula-One cloud system
  • Allows biotech firms to focus more on using the infrastructure for research as a result of ease of administration
  • Accommodates stand up and tear down testing environments quickly to accommodate new projects
  • Reduces management complexity  via private cloud infrastructure and empowers IT to scale without adding operational costs
