TOP RATED: HP’s ProLiant DL385 G7 with New AMD Opteron 6200 Processors

Guest blog written by Barry Brooks, HP Product Marketing Manager, ISS

DL385 G7.jpgWith the recent AMD Opteron 6200 processor refresh, the HP ProLiant DL385 G7 server delivers a new “first” that further solidifies its leadership in the two-processor 2U AMD rack space.

Taking the #1 spot in the two-processor TPC-C performance benchmark*, a test that simulates an Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) database environment by measuring the performance of a system when it’s tasked with processing numerous short business transactions concurrently, an HP ProLiant DL385 G7 populated with AMD’s Opteron 6282SE processors, achieved 1,207,982 tpmC (denoting the average number of new-order transactions that the system processed per minute over a minimum of a two hour period) at USD $0.89/tpmC  - passing IBM’s best POWER7-based two-processor server and far exceeding the results achieved with prior Opteron 6100 series processors.

Similar database performance improvements were seen on the HP ProLiant DL385 G7 from the two-tier SAP Sales and Distribution standard application benchmark** that mimics a sell-from-stock scenario from the creation of a customer order to the corresponding delivery with subsequent goods movement and invoicing. The AMD Opteron 6200 test results yielded a 32% improvement over prior Opteron 6100 results and even beat similar results from Intel’s Xeon 5600 processor series.

Whatever your database need, these results should assure you that the HP ProLiant DL385 G7, coupled with AMD’s Opteron 6200 processors, can deliver the power you need for today’s extreme workloads as well as the headroom for growth you’ll require tomorrow.

Barry,

I'm glad to see Bulldozer available, and congrats on the excellent TPC-C and SAP SD 2-Tier results.

Also, thank you to you & team for publishing other standard benchmarks on the DL385 G7 with the Opteron 6200.  I also see you've published TPC-E, SPECjbb2005, SPECvirt_sc2010, and lots of SPEC CPU2006 rate results on the server.  Posting plenty of results like this -- right at product launch -- helps paint a clear picture of capability.

You should call out the SPECvirt results here.  Awesome to see the first Opteron system with a SPECvirt result (and a result that edges over the 2-socket Xeon 5600 results).
