What do politics and virtualization have in common?

If you’re a political junkie you cannot beat an election year in the United States.  The elections are followed in the news media with the same enthusiasm as competitive sports and as a result we tend to enjoy all the thrills, ups and downs, and ins and outs of every candidate.  As often is the case, many candidates tend to focus too much on each other and too little on the issues that encompass the real problems.  Wouldn’t it be nice if plain-speak were a  prerequisite to declaring one’s candidacy—forcing candidates to address issues accurately and more importantly once taking a position not changing it  to satisfy voters they are attempting to capture?

In the virtualization arena we face a similar landscape, but instead of political power it is a power struggle to capture the hearts and minds of the IT organizations and to make sure the IT resources are focused on value added innovation.  As in the political arena, it all comes down to who you can trust and which vendor’s solutions deliver as promised. In my mind, when it comes to virtualization, who to pick should be based on the following four factors:  management, security, performance, cost, and support.

At HP our approach to virtualization is simple—design the highest performing, most reliable virtualization optimized platforms available (this is the plain speak I previously referenced).  At HP developing and designing the highest performing, most reliable, and virtualization optimized converged infrastructure is a passion.  And with the launch of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.0 the virtualization landscape becomes even better for our customers.

In my following blogs I will demonstrate how HP and Red Hat are working together not only to save our virtualization customers money, but also create opportunities to achieve better virtualization performance, reliability, and manageability.
