Convergence or Disaggregation of IT infrastructures Doesn’t Have to Be The Choice

DR.pngGuest Blog by Dr. Tom Bradicich, VP Server Engineering

When I teach college engineering classes, I talk to my students about “mutually exclusive objectives”. This conflict arises when two objectives are opposing, and seemly cannot exist at the same time. For example, when I was a young engineer designing one of the industry’s first notebook computers, I was challenged with making it light weight AND making the battery last a long time. This was mutually exclusive objective because I could make the computer light weight, but the resulting light weight battery wouldn’t last long. Today these are no longer conflicting objectives. A solution to BOTH was discovered. So it is with many things in life. If you can solve mutually exclusive objectives, I’d say, you’ll advance your company and your career.

Videos from the HP Converged Infrastructure Road Show & a contest thru 4.30

On March 11 in Palo Alto, CA I attended the HP Converged Infrastructure Road Show featuring HP experts on the latest technology breaking down silos to simplify IT and accelerate business results. The HP Road Shows are usually accessable to customers and HP partners only, but this year we invited two leading industry video bloggers, Andrew McCaskey from SDR News and Jeffery Powers from Geekazine. The bloggers captured the HP expert’s sessions and short, informal interviews with the HP experts. I have pasted the URLs below, but better yet check out the contest to win a HP EliteBook Giveaway – details on SDR news. Contest closes April 30, 2010. You’ll need to write down the code words from the videos to enter. Geekazine is also featuring the contest,

The HP Converged Infrastructure Road Show will also be gearing up again in the summer. The sessions are rumored to be more demo / hands on. Stay tuned to Server Insights for details.
