HP Converged Systems deliver business insights with SAS Visual Analytics

By Travis Kuter – HP Converged Systems

Vision: It is the faculty of seeing. It is sight. And it has the marvelous capability of helping others discover and perceive objects previously undetected. In business, this ability to see and analyze previously undetected objects like customer preferences and product trends is imperative.

Every company has massive amounts of data which when properly evaluated have the ability to deliver strategic as well as tactical insights. The questions become: how can they find the most relevant data and whether or not it is possible to unlock that hidden data?

With HP Converged Systems for SAS Visual Analytics (HP CS for SAS VA), the answer to both of those questions is yes. HP and SAS have partnered together to make complex data analytics and reporting on those analytics, simple and easy. The goal is to allow knowledge works to spend less time looking for information, and more time analyzing it.

SAS Visual Analytics is an in-memory analytics engine which approaches data queries from the computer’s memory as opposed to querying data that is stored on slow physical disks.

HP Converged Systems for SAS Visual Analytics (HP CS for SAS VA) offer enterprises a pre-tested, pre-configured, highly scalable and easy to deploy solutions which make gaining maximum value from their data a breeze.

HP Converged Systems for SAS Visual Analytics relies on RHEL 6.2 or later and includes the RHEL license, configures the entire order to be ready for use as part of the factory build.  Support is also included.  A further part of the factory build is the pre-load of the SAS VA software. Novell’s SUSE 11 operating system is also an alternative.

In addition, HP Converged Systems for SAS Visual Analytics encompass flexible SMP and MPP configurations, built on ProLiant servers with a menu of choices for processors, disk drives and more.

These HP Converged Systems, SMP and MPP alike, are suitable for SAS 9.4 Foundation, running with SAS Visual Analytics 6.2.

The SAS-approved configurations are optimized for SAS Visual Analytics, scaling from 1 or 4 to 256+ servers, delivering analytical results to web browser and mobile devices in seconds to minutes.  The HP factory pre-installs the software and integrates the hardware and software – both accelerating the time to deployment.

HP Converged Systems for SAS Visual Analytics include the following, flexible deployment configurations:

  • SMP or Single Processor Unit Options: HP DL360p, HP DL380p, and HP DL560 Gen8 rack mount servers and 300GB to 2.4 TB (raw) storage capacity. Additional options will be available the fall of 2013 on ML350p, BL460c and BL660c servers.
  • MPP or Multiple processor unit options: HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosures with Virtual Connect Flex-10/FlexFabric containing four (4) to two hundred fifty six (256+) Proliant BL460c Gen 8 server blades with up to 613.1 TB (raw) storage capacity; DL360p/DL380p rack-mount server versions up to 128+ servers will be available the fall of 2013.

For organizations starting out, the flexible architecture accommodates today’s deployment and tomorrow’s growth.  HP has helped hundreds of customers and partners unleash the power of the data center as a driver for business growth.  The ecosystem of support for these configurations spans the availability continuum: 24x7, 365 days per year, covering 24 time zones in 30+ languages and 170 countries with decades of proven experience.

The end result of this hard work between HP and SAS, is that we give our customers the confidence and simplicity needed to vastly shorten the time it takes to analyze data which in turn supports faster business decisions.

We think deploying a solution from two industry leaders, SAS and HP, is another way to enhance productivity with proven technology, fueled by 26 years of partnering excellence.
