Rethink BI : Business Insights over Business Intelligence
The purpose of this business insights thought leadership blog is to share the HP point of view on industry trends such as Big Data and Real Time Analytics, and provide updates on key innovations and solutions.

Santa Claus Does Exist. Look for blazing fast analytics (at low cost) in your stocking.

HP has made yet another bold statement in the big data space with the announcement of the HP ConvergedSystem 300 for Vertica that is years ahead of the competition in the way it enables new types of big data analytics and brings all of that in a complete package, with integrated support included, to customers who can reap its benefits from day 1.

HP ConvergedSystem 300 for Vertica

The proof is in the digital pudding.

You can tell they are feeding us well here at HP Discover in Barcelona because dessert is on my mind. A key feature this year is the live streaming of keynotes and announcements. Click here to see Tom Joyce, VP of ConvergedSystems, talk about how our solutions bring unprecedented savings and value to virtualization and big data workloads. In the opening general session on Tuesday, we had Bill Veghte - who runs all of Enterprise Group talking about why ConvergedSystems are such a game changer. Enterprise Group churns out hundreds of products, many of which have key announcements at HP Discover. The fact that Bill chose a ConvergedSystem rack to be displayed on stage during the opening keynote of HP's marquee conference is solid proof that HP is 100% committed to being a product and thought leader in helping customers cross the virtualization and big data chasms.

Blazing Fast Analytics at cost – the best of both worlds

The HP ConvergedSystem 300 for Vertica can augment your legacy data warehouses to bring them into the 21st century. It brings big data analytics to warehouse platforms that just weren’t designed for the scale or data types that need to be supported in today’s analytics tools. In addition, it addresses pain points around performance, cost, flexibility and time to value, for IT shops that are inundated with requests from business users who demand faster, deeper analytics. Watch this Gartner webinar to learn why big data analytics are so different from traditional analytics, and how customers who’ve bought into the vision have gained significant competitive advantage.

This announcement has been getting a lot of great press this week. Most of the message has been around four key areas:

  • Lower Cost – Up to 70% cost savings on acquisition, maintenance, renewals and skills
  • Faster Analytics – 50 to a 1000 times better query performance
  • More Flexibility – Deeper analytics functionality (including FlexZone to bridge into Hadoop) built on an open technology stack
  • Faster Time to Value – From order to up and running in your data center in days, not weeks or months

HP created a big data HAVEn

One of the first questions we got asked at the conference was how the Vertica ConvergedSystem fits into the HAVEn story. Essentially, HAVEn is a vision and this is the first productization of that vision in a complete hardware-software-support-services bundle that can be wheeled into a data center and be ready from day 1 to support hundreds of TB’s of data analytics and thousands of users. Learn about the newly launched HAVEn developer portal – our version of an appstore for big data where developers can extend the HAVEn platform and build a truly open exchange of big data applications tailored to very specific business workloads.
