Using hindsight (and technology) to eliminate business risk
“Hindsight is a beautiful thing” It’s not often that a technology company quotes David Beckham, but in this case he has a point. A recent IDC whitepaper (Reducing Downtime and Business Loss: Addressing Business Risk with Effective Technology) demonstrated that small and medium businesses can suffer up to 20 hours of downtime across their technology infrastructure a month. That’s pretty damaging when you consider that, at best, that results in days of lost productivity and at worst it can result in lost business.
Businesses cannot afford to suffer like that and with twenty-twenty hindsight it’s clear that these risks need to be avoided rather than tolerated. But what causes them? Network outages? Security breaches? Overstretched systems failing? Or even all of the above? The fact is no-one can really predict what’s going to happen tomorrow or even later today and that uncertainty is almost as big an enemy as the risks themselves. Reading the IDC paper you get the feeling that part of the solution is simple common sense like adopting industry best-practices like ITIL etc. But so often that sort of thing gets knocked down the to-do list by the routine tasks and fire fighting. Large organisations are able to implement bespoke disaster recovery solutions that they can rely on to keep them running, but that’s a luxury not everyone can afford. We at HP beg to differ.
HP cannot promise to stop power cuts or stop the raft of compliance regulations that are coming in to force; but we can provide you with a solid, reliable technology base on which to run your systems so that the threat of unplanned downtime is reduced. Based on the HP ProLiant, HP StorageWorks and HP ProCurve platforms combined with the software tools that protect your PCs and printers HP’s risk mitigation solutions can be tailored in the way you want, to protect you from the risks you don’t. Have a look at the IDC whitepaper here to see if you agree, you might not have time to read it now but tuck it away for next time you’re waiting for the network to come back up. In hindsight it may be a very wise decision…
