PIRA has announced their 11th annual Security Printing and Alternative Solutions conference in CEE & Russia. In 2011, it will be in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia (Hrvatska). I have attended several PIRA conferences in the past--they are well-organized, informative, and a generally excellent mix of "big picture"/industry perspective, often provided by PIRA experts, along with deep-dives into the point technologies by other presenters.

The program includes many high profile speakers including government officials, industry experts, technology providers and academics from the graphics field and more information can be found at www.security-printing.com

Quick update

Ugh...sorry, nothing added in over a month and many comments to approve.  I'm typing this in Heathrow airport en route back from Manchester UK.  The last month has been a blur with HP Labs annual project review and 10 papers due and presentations to prepare for the ACM DocEng 2010 (please see DocEng 2010 home site) and the IS&T DigiFab 2010/NIP26 (please see NIP26 conference home page). I will post links to those ten papers as they go public on the HP Labs Technical Report site).

For now, rest assured, preparing and presenting 10 papers in a single week is not only difficult--it is impossible. Helped by the fact that Thursday 23 September was the day both conferences chose to schedule the bulk of my talks.

So, while I was on the hook for first authoring half the papers and half the slide sets of those 10, I only presented 2 of them.  Thanks so much to my wonderful co-authors....Jason Aronoff, Helen Balinsky, Margaret Sturgill, Bob Ulichney and Marie Vans...for covering the rest.

I got the chance to pay forward the favor, as my friend Fabio Giannetti was unable to attend the DocEng conference, and so I presented his excellent work on "Profiling PDF Files for Accurate Cost Estimation and Efficient On-Demand Book Printing" (please see full DocEng program here).

The NIP26 conference was excellent this year. IS&T is a rather unique professional organization in that they so broadly empower their conference program chairs to "reshape" the conference as the technology changes. Many new sessions were added this year (and I got to invite many creative and deeply technical colleagues to these new sessions), including textile printing, modeling, and hardware oriented sessions. See the full NIP26 / DigiFab 2010 program here.

Thanks,

Steve
