Storage for small to midsize businesses: time for software-defined?

This week I’m attending a meeting with some of our most valued Distribution Partners in EMEA and thought this might be a good reason to reflect on storage for small-to-midsize businesses. I’m focusing today software-defined storage. Cost pressures, limited staff and a generally more integrated IT approach (what else can you do with only one or two IT guys only) makes software-defined storage a very attractive to small business...or to large enterprises with smaller remote sites. Here’s why

Hybrid storage – breakneck speed without breaking the bank

If there’s one truth about the storage world today it’s that change is constant. That’s partly why I enjoy working in this industry so much - there’s always something new on the horizon! When I speak to customers of all sizes, they tell me exactly the same. That their business is evolving and adapting at an astonishing rate, and what they really need is technology that’s going to keep up with the pace of change. Hybrid storage isn’t a topic I’ve covered before, but with the recent announcement of HP StoreVirtual 4335 Storage, I wanted to explore this theme, particularly in relation to our small and midsize business customers.

Unlocking the promise of ProLiant with Software-Defined Storage

A couple of months ago when I talked about the new style of IT and the future of storage, I promised I’d talk about Software-Defined Storage some more. Boy have I got something to tell you about it today!

If you follow my posts here, you’ll know that I’m a believer in converged infrastructure. Why? Because convergence comes up time and time again as I talk to customers. Things move fast in our world, and customers are keen to benefit from the disruptive advances in technology around us. At the Gartner Symposium last month, Gartner said Software-Defined Storage is the #2 in their Top 10 trends. I think it’s already well underway today.
