Story Behind the IT Services Story

Pat Koroch was brought up to treat people the way she wanted to be treated -- treating everyone with respect. And, because she valued that in people she worked with, she kept working with her teams at HP's Document Processing Services Center in Des Moines, Iowa. These midwestern U.S. values and strong work ethic translated nicely for her into helping her clients be more productive and cut costs.

I had the chance to speak with her on her 40th anniversary with HP just before she retired when we highlighted her team's work and all the great services the Center offers our clients in Iowa.

I met Steve Schneider and Davey Rodriguez while doing a video on them about how HP handles transitioning employees to us during and after an engagement with a client. I knew something was up with their passion when, after every call with them, I felt a little happier and more philosophical about my own job. Something was infectious about their outlook. I had to find out why. 

I’m not sure everyone feels this way but sometimes I get overloaded by choice as a consumer in the U.S. When I do, I think back to when I worked as a journalist in the then Soviet Union right before and after communism fell in the early 90s. I remember walking into a shop in Moscow and knowing I could only buy a very limited amount of things. Potato. Bread. Some cheese. Not a whole lot more ...

It's not every day in my marketing job that I get to actually tell the story of a co-worker who literally saved the life of a client.

Yes, we can help make our clients speedier with our technology services. Yes, we can help their customers be more productive. But .... save a life?
