The New Media Consortium is hosting another free webinar, live on 28 Feb 2012 at 9am Central Time (don’t worry – it’s being recorded, too!)…

If so, be sure to check out the online events being hosted by NMC. These are FREE mini-webinars which you can participate in “live” (if the timezone works for you), or view the recordings after the fact.

 

On Tuesday 28 Feb 2012 at 7am Pacific / 9am Central / 3pm UK / 8:30pm India, four projects from the HP Catalyst network will be featured:

 

"Eco-Virtual Environment Project: Creating a Sustainable Virtual World of Learning" by City Academy Norwich (UK) – The EVE project is showing students how to create 3D worlds to promote “active STEM learning”

 

"CDI Methodology: Empowering Students through Digital Inclusion" by Center for Digital Inclusion (Brazil) – Learn how CDI is bringing ICT to low income students in Brazil, and engaging them in solving some of their community’s pressing challenges.


"Centrale EAT Innovation Framework: Adapting Training to Companies’ Needs" by Ecole Centrale de Lyon (France) – Anyone interested in tablet pc’s and electronic portfolios will want to listen in on this presentation…


Candace Thille, Carnegie Mellon University. on "Measuring - As one of the leaders of the HP Catalyst Measuring Learning Consortium, Dr. Thille will describe how they are exploring ways to use technology to measure what matters. Can you really measure creativity, for example?

  • Jim Vanides is a member of the HP Office of Global Social Innovation, responsible for worldwide education philanthropy strategy and programs. This includes the 2010 HP Catalyst Initiative (www.hp.com/go/hpcatalyst) and the 2009 HP Innovations in Education initiative, a $20M investment reaching schools, colleges, and universities in 26 countries. In addition to authoring the blog, “Teaching, Learning, and Technology in Higher Education” (www.hp.com/go/hied-blog) he is a contributing author on the K12 education blog, Guide to Digital Learning Environments (www.guide2digitallearning.com/blog). In his "spare" time, Jim teaches an online course for Montana State University on the Science of Sound (www.scienceteacher.org), a masters-level, conceptual physics course for teachers in grades 5 through 8. Jim’s past work at HP has included engineering design, engineering management, and program management in R&D, Manufacturing, and Business Development. He holds a BS in Engineering and a MA in Education, both from Stanford University.
