Palm Beach Atlantic University received an HP Technology for Teaching award in 2008, and since that time, Jim Swick has been using tablet pc’s and DyKnow software to redesign his calculus class. Read how the experience has changed the way he teaches…

The team at DyKnow describes what is so interesting about the project at Palm Beach Atlantic University:

...The university uses the technology in its "Classroom Tools for Mathematics" project to redesign calculus courses. Swick and his colleagues saw the technology as a means to help students learn the subject differently.

"I believe all students can learn mathematics and maybe even grow to enjoy it," said Swick. "However, I believe many students 'do' mathematics as a rote process without any understanding of the beauty of the subject hidden behind algorithms. The power of technology provides methods that allow students to discover - the key word here - and see what really is going on in the background bringing sense to what they do mathematically."
