How do you invite the world to an education summit? Make it free and entirely online – around the clock for 5 days November 14-18, 2011 (call for presentations due Oct 15th)…

Those of you following our HP Catalyst Initiative know that we believe in “re-imagining” STEM education as a hands-on, authentic experience in a global context. I even recently blogged about “4 Reasons Why Global Fluency Matters”. So you can imagine how excited I was to hear about the upcoming “Global Education Summit”.
The second annual Global Education Conference is a week-long event bringing together educators and innovators from around the world. It’s a global conference about “global education” that will be held Monday, November 14 through Friday, November 18, 2011. Presentations are streamed live, nearly 24hours a day, and if you miss a session, you can participate in the online discussions that follow. Last year, the conference featured more than 400 presentations from 62 countries, with over 15,000 attendee logins.
The Call for Proposals (presentations) for the 2011 event is now open at, with submissions due October 15th.
Educators AND students(!) who have great examples of extending learning “beyond the borders of the classroom” are encouraged to submit a proposal to present, and accepted speakers can choose whatever time they want to present (after all, this is a global event!). Topics for general sessions are focused on one of four possible tracks: Teacher Track; Student Track; Curricular Track; and Policy and Leadership Track. Proposals should focus on ideas, projects, and initiatives that promote global understanding and collaboration.
Kudos to the organizers, Steve Hargadon (@stevehargadon) and Lucy Gray (@elemenous), for bringing the world of educators together! For further information, join their network at http://globaleducationconference.com and follow the event on Twitter (@GlobalEdCon) and using the hashtag #GlobalEd11
