Big_Data * V⁴ = HP AppSystem SAP HANA +(HP Moonshot *SLES Apache Hadoop)

Well! As many of you might have already heard HP is shooting to the moon!!! You know, every time I read about HP Moonshot, the lyrics of the song “leaving on a jet plane…don’t know when I’ll be back again…” in the voice of Michael Clarke Duncan* comes to my mind (great actor).  Truly, we are on a great journey, continuing and expanding a vision of the future with innovative technology, advanced services, creative partnerships and software solutions that are changing the way we manage big data.

In my previous article “A converged technology platform for better strategic results” I discussed the major facts on implementing a solution such as AppSystem SAP HANA.  Today, I’d like to share my thoughts on the HP Moonshot combined with SLES Hadoop.   This converged technology platform exponentially increases the Big Data management to V⁴ (volume, velocity, veracity, value).

Years ago, the Egyptians built pyramids with sheer human force; now, we use tower cranes to build modern skyscrapers.   This analogy represents the future of IT:  it is not just faster and accurate processing output, but how much data can be processed with less energy and complexity, minimum investment, and smaller footprint.  HP Moonshot is the powerful new IT tower crane that manages data volume with great performance. It maintains data integrity by adding value to data that has been waiting to be mined, and drives computing power to the data -- not the data to computing.

HP Moonshot Systems is a new design for specific application, by using an energy efficient processor in order to save big dollars in power, space and IT management. I share the following image taken from the HP Project Moonshot and the Redstone Development Server Platform White Paper to illustrate the potential.

Let me present an idea. -- Now that we have a complete converged technology platform, what if we add a new combination of elements, and those are HP Moonshot running Apache Hadoop for data analytics?, Just think about the possibilities for a minute: financial fraud detection enhancements, social media content analysis, genome database, even large hadron collider’s exponential scientific measurements -- all with results in real time.

Apache Hadoop is the open source software that enables distributed parallel processing of gigantic amounts of data. This was made possible thanks to the alliance of SuSE and Cloudera.  Big Data is a growing market and the trend to maximize the use of content will continue.  The number of devices in the world today is dependent on telecommunications platforms with  increased performance. Achieving that goal with less power consumption was not possible till now.  HP Moonshot is currently the lowest energy consumption server platform available in the market.

I enjoy creative day-dreaming about the possibilities that technology enables. If anyone ever integrates a solution such as the personal professional opinion written above, I would love to be part of the project.

To my fellow coworkers Pablo Curco and Vinicio Ledezma, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this subject over our coffee break. I hope you enjoy reading this article.

Until next time,

Charles

I leverage my 27 years of system, storage, and networking experience to ensure optimal performance with Data Protector and StoreOnce technologies.
