Last night I was reading through a few documents and I was completely amazed with the new enhanced features being introduced with HP’s new hardware releases. Yes, I am talking about the Gen8 servers. The work that Engineering has accomplished integrating the new features and upgrading the existing ones in the HP ProLiant servers is outstanding!
HP has always focused on customer needs, leading innovation hardware-wise, and this time is not an exception. The result of their work takes our caring vision on IT enterprise business, and backs it up with a combination of available data, market research and the most current IT challenges. The following features enhance the hardware performance and drive an excellent support experience:
The video progress indicator shows the end user a complete boot sequence. This feature, combined with the fault detection messaging, provides a quick error detection method, diagnosing any hardware mismatches, such as memory or processors. Most importantly, it provides you with a message that details the accurate remedial action to follow. Gone are the times when a blank black screen, or a huge HP logo signaled trouble.
Furthermore, this is the first generation of servers that contains Active Health System Log (AHS). This log will record all of the hardware and configuration changes taking place in the server. This diagnostics feature is built-in and always running in the iLO, allowing for faster root cause analysis.
Because remote monitoring is now integrated in the iLO, there is no need to have a Central Management Server in the environment. This feature is for small businesses to allow them to benefit from automatic case creation at HP. Another trait imbedded into iLO is agent-less hardware monitoring. This feature frees you from the need to install software agents or health driver into your operating system. You can monitor the server right out of the box and discover it with HP Systems Insight Manager and Insight Remote Support!
Finally, as if all that wasn’t enough, Intelligent Provisioning was developed and incorporated into the system board for easy management, and to assist you in deploying the operating systems in the hardware. The software, a 4GB imbedded flash in the system board, contains all the drivers and HP management applications necessary to get your systems up and running. It replaces the Smart Start.
I am completely sure that many of these enhancements will assist IT environments by reducing the cost of downtime, therefore minimizing human errors. IT management complexity is being left behind, and in bringing a new generation of servers to market HP is contributing to enhanced IT management solutions, simplifying management through integration, increasing agility through automation, proactive service and unified control across the data center.
I will be sharing other features that come along with Gen8 servers in future articles.
Until then - Keep in touch!!!
