Old school meets new style of IT

This week at the Red Hat Summit has been a blur of people and conversations about how to utilize the features of Red Hat software to get better value out of open source software.

 

I noticed what might seem, at first glance, to be a “generational” shift where many of the Summit’s participants are comfortably using their phones to share their opinion, get the word out and conduct business. But on closer observation, these new users of mobile technology spanned generations, from millenials to baby-boomers. 

 

More than just hitting a “like” button, social media allows us to do business with each other, no matter where we are, no matter what task we need to accomplish.  The big buzzwords – cloud, mobility and big data – are so much more than the latest IT du jour.  These remarkable technologies are actually transforming the world of business.  We’re moving faster to new places because of new ideas, and we’re finding new ways to work together in this ever-changing IT landscape. 

 

Some things haven’t changed, however. We want to do so many things, but we still need to know who we can trust.  We want easy access to information that is accurate, relevant and useful.  Connecting is important; we may be linking in new ways but we want to know the person or company on the other end of the mobile device is there to help us.  Did I say mobile device? That translates to business anywhere.
