DPTIPS: Large Objects - Divide and Conquer with Data Protector
We've all seen it. One of your Data Protector clients has an E: drive with 800 GB of used capacity, and the backup runs ... and runs ..... forever. Disk Agents for all of the other drives have long finished, but like The Little Engine That Could, the lonely Disk Agent working on the E: drive just keeps grinding away until it finishes many hours later. How would you like to improve that single-volume backup performance? There is a way to make it happen that doesn't involve sending your Disk Agent to the gym to build bigger muscles. You might even laugh when you see how simple it is. This is good stuff -- some of my most valuable DP consulting collateral. So we'll just keep it a secret between you and me, okay? Shhhhh, don't tell a soul.
