What’s so BIG about Telco in particular when talking Big Data?
Reality today is that CSPs are in danger of becoming providers of only commodity services. At the same time – at their disposal – is a magnitude of data - a treasure trove of information that can improve their role in this evolving ecosystem and put them back into the value chain. Access to this data presents the CSPs an opportunity to monetize that network.
On top of that, the magnitude of data volumes in the Communication Industry is at the level nowhere neared by any other. To illustrate - an American network provider moves 19 Petabytes of data through their network each day. For context - It took 1 petabyte of data to render the movie Avatar. So think of that as a CSP rendering 19 Avatars in a single day when it took almost 3 years to render.
So obviously, for CSPs, Big Data is not only bigger, but also much more critical to leverage than in any other industry
What is the new solution announced ?
As the base of our Telco Big Data & Analytics offering is HP Smart Profile Server (SPS), which is a software platform for subscriber profile management and analytics designed especially for CSPs and built to satisfy business needs of the Communications industry.
HP SPS provides an analytic algorithms engine; Communication data models and complex event processing enabled by HP Autonomy IDOL10, HP Vertica V6; and the data collection and management capabilities of HP enhanced Internet Usage Manager (eIUM) 7.1.
