Professional quality color for up to 50% less cost per page and energy use than lasers1

HP Officejet Pro products print professional color documents for up to 50% less cost per page and energy use than lasers1. Low CPP and energy use without sacrificing quality are two major factors that our research shows to be very important to our business customers.
Confirming the claims
Earlier this year, in a test between HP’s Officejet Pro L7590 All-in-One (AiO) and Samsung’s CLX-2160N, Druckerchannel -- a leading printer testing site– found HP’s offering less expensive in hardware ($408 US/299 EUR compared to $681/499 EUR) and 34% cheaper in cost of ink and toner. In addition, the HP Officejet Pro AiO required only four ink cartridges ($113/83 EUR), while the Samsung laser required four toner tanks ($170/125 EUR), a waste toner box ($13.5/10 EUR) and an imaging drum ($191/140 EUR). In the review, Druckerchannel’s Florian Heise concluded, “HP’s AiO is a bargain at 200 Euros less (than Samsung), a much better configuration and printing costs are less.”In other tests commissioned by HP, SpencerLab Digital Color Laboratory – a research and marketing firm – compared the HP Officejet Pro versus Samsung laser AiOs for speed, cost-per-page and quality. It found that from “Ready” mode, HP proves to be 53% faster than the Samsung CLP-300 Color Laser Printer, including 63% faster in total print time from the “Powersave” mode.
As for costs, SpencerLab found the HP Officejet Pro AiO was 36% less expensive on a cost per page basis than the Samsung ML1620 Monochrome Laser Printer for a standardized black and white test page. The color-capable HP Officejet Pro AiO delivered this monochrome test page at 1.6 cents per page compared to 2.5 cents per page on the monochrome-only Samsung laser.
In terms of quality, SpencerLab reported the HP Officejet Pro’s prints were “realistic, vibrant and smooth,” while text was “well defined and fairly smooth.”
Competition taking notice
For the past few years, the primary competition for the HP Officejet Pro brand in this space was competitors’ laser printers. Because of the success we’ve had – and the incredible opportunities that are ahead of us with HP Officejet Pro products – inkjet competitors now want a piece of the pie. HP was the first in the industry to identify how smaller businesses could really benefit from buying inkjet instead of laser printers, and that these customers tend to be very loyal about buying hardware and supplies. HP is the clear leader in this segment, and we will continue to stay in that position through new innovations and features.Concern of Cannibalism?
Will growing the HP Officejet Pro business eat into HP’s own laser sales? I don’t think so. HP doesn’t market our ink and laser products against each other, but there is naturally some overlap. Basically, if the lowest cost for hardware and the printed page are important, I would suggest an HP Officejet Pro device. That said, nothing compares to the unparalleled office printing experience of an HP LaserJet product, and if higher performance is important, I would recommend an HP LaserJet printer or AiO. The most important thing is getting the solution right for the customer. For example, if a customer in an office of less than 10 people walks into a store with $300 and is looking for the best printer choice in terms of cost of hardware, supplies, printing cost per page and energy efficiency, we feel confident – as does Druckerchannel -- that an HP Officejet Pro AiO is the right solution.1Majority of color laser AiOs < $600 and color laser printers < $300, June 2008, OJ Pro with XL cartridges. Energy use based on manufacturers’ stated power consumption when printing. Test methods vary. For details hp.com/go/officejet.
