Machine to Machine in the Home (part 3)

I came across this article that talks about the use of sensing and management techniques in the home to manage power and security. Since last week I wrote a couple of posts about machine to machine and the new levels of value that organizations can derive from sensing and automation, it seemed like a good tie between these concepts and the consumerization movement.

Individuals are seeing the value of  sensing techniques in their daily lives. Being able to adjust the thermostat, turn lights on and off and record TV shows while away from your house using your smartphone are clearly ways the consumer space is moving these concepts forward. The growth of headless computers  for the consumer allow for relatively low costs and low power consumption to make this automation happen.

It may be hobbyists that are automating their environment today, like they’ve been automating homes for decades. This home automation trend comes at the intersection of edge computing, networking, personalization, consumerization and a number of other IT trends that are affecting businesses as well.  Have you utilized home automation?
