Sensing the value of what’s around us…

time.pngMost of you have probably heard about HP’s work with Shell  focus on sensing seismic detail using accelerometers measuring very fine vibration… This article in IEEE Spectrum titled: Prospecting for Oil or Gold? Check the Time addresses a similar opportunity, but using a different sensing technique.

To have the accuracy to sense time at the level where you can recognize (through relativistic effects) the change in density of the matter below you in the earth’s crust is very impressive.

In my predictions for 2013 post, I mentioned the shift in expectations related to sensing. With new capabilities that move beyond just the analysis of data already collected but also measuring the physics of the environment around you, some interesting business possibilities will surely develop.
