The New Polymath

About a year ago Vinnie Mirchandani talked with me about a project he was starting upon, writing a book about technology innovations and the people and personalities who invented them. Vinnie’s book was just released – The New Polymath.

Not only did he try to tackle a broad topic, he also focused on developing the readers own skills in understanding the implications of these trends using examples that we can all relate. Vinnie has been blogging for a long time about these kinds of topics, so weaving them together into a book is both natural and able to convey a context that the stream of blog entries cannot. I just noticed that he gave me a bit of credit in the Acknowledgments for spurring him to finish the book – I was humbled by the reference.

For those interested in technical trends looking for something beyond a summer read, I recommend checking it out.

“These pages are filled with incredible examples of passionate entrepreneurs, established leaders, and multinational companies, innovatively leveraging technology to tackle big problems, “grand challenges,” related to health, hunger, and natural disasters—and of course, information technology. As Mirchandani says, “it’s time for AND not OR”. Read on; be inspired. I’m looking forward to enjoying the future that we create” – Marc Benioff , Chairman and CEO Salesforce.com

I originally said he referenced me in the prologue, but it was really in the Acknowledgments section. That's what I get for looking at a pre-released version.

I happened to review a copy of the pre-released version, too. I agree that its an excellent read.

BTW....He may have given you a "bit" of credit, but he certainly holds you in very high regard.

My interaction with Vinnie seems to come in spurts. I have to say that it's one thing to write a chapter or two a year but the amount of effort to complete a book of this breadth while still supporting your normal client base is commendable.

He is definitely someone who has his fingers in a number of areas particularly around the ERP space and its shift to SaaS.
