Thinking about the implications of 2013 trends...
I am talking with an organization about some of the business and IT trends that may be quite disruptive at their intersection. I recently came across this set of slides on CIO Insight that discusses their view on the IT Growth Outlook and Trends in 2013 that overlaps many of the items I will be talking about today.
When organizations can take a step back and look at the issues strategically, rather than just muddling through the way they always have, they can free up some of those fixed costs maintaining systems and turn them into variable costs, enabling them to tackle new issues. With all the changes underway, larger companies need to be careful to not let their previous success slow them down. The smaller companies will be adopting the latest technologies sooner, since they almost have no choice.
Look for what they’re doing. As William Gibson (SF Author) once said “The future is already here -- it is just not evenly distributed.”
