Application Modernization Workshop - A Guide Along the Journey

As a follow on to yesterday’s post, I thought a video about the Application Modernization workshop may be in order:

This video provides a bit of background about the process the type of interaction that will take place – how it helps organizations develop their transformation goals for their transformation journey.

The video starts with Kim Stevenson of Intel talking about what’s driving this need – Kim was a judge with me on the NTX FIRST Robotics competition a couple of weeks back.

In addition to the workshop there is always software from HP to help out as well to help with an organization's innovation challenges.

Applications and HP finally getting some press

modernize.pngThere has been a bit of press over the last week about HP moving more into the applications space. Actually they got into that in a bigger way than most of the analysts understood with the purchase of EDS. The EDS team had unique industry focused applications as its foundation since the 60s, but lost their way a bit during the last decade. That may be why it’s not gotten the coverage it should have received.

Another area becoming visible is the application transformation efforts. The announcements on April 12th, follow other announcements earlier in the month related to unifying information management services. All of which provide options for a more agile and effective application portfolio – a more Instant-On Enterprise. The big trends that are forcing organizations to rethink their business, also force a reassessment of the applications portfolio, beyond the cost cutting activities during the start of the recent economic downturn. No one wants their business strategies derailed by IT.

I am happy to see the reemphasis on modernization, transformation and business value, since without that we’re just battling it out for customer mindshare at a commodity level.

My family and I are in the process of moving to a new house so this IT BusinessEdge slideshow titled: From Clutter to Control -- Time to Spring Clean the Applications Portfolio rang true for me at multiple levels.
