75 years of innovation, invention and creation (Mickey Mouse was the first customer!)

By Ian Jagger, Global Portfolio Marketing Manager, HP Technology Consulting Services

Ian Jagger.jpgThink as hard as you can to recall a technology company that has lasted 75 years. Hard isn’t it? There might be one other, but Meg Whitman was proud to discuss, in a snapshot, the heritage of HP. And believe it or not, it started with Mickey Mouse. Bill and Dave’s first sale was 8 audio oscillators to Disney to enhance the sound of the movie experience of Fantasia!

The keynote covered many aspects, but the essence is reinvention, and that’s how HP has lasted 75 years. Not just lasted, but is THE most complete technology company today. It’s not confused by what it should divest from, and it’s increasing its efforts for leadership in servers, storage, networks, and its Cloud offer, Helion. HP recognized the sea-changes of Cloud, Big Data, and Mobility — as well as the security issues that arrive as the dark horseman accompanying these colliding phenomena — and as a result is out in front of any other vendor in providing customers comprehensive solutions to the walls that their IT capabilities are hitting. I’ll say COMPREHENSIVE again, because the scale of adoption and development coming from the HP brain trust is quite phenomenal.

Yesterday HP announced new enterprise solutions providing customers with the simplicity, efficiency and investment protection needed to build next-generation datacenters within a software-defined architecture, including Apollo, and my favorite of the day, All-flash arrays. Today we announced our Atalla solutions; encryption innovations; and a cooperation with ATT, HTC and others to create an enhanced “net” for the Helion solution providing secure solutions in the Cloud with those providers combined with Helion.

There was much to hear from HP’s execs and customers, and actually, there was much to talk about, but most of all, in this 75th year anniversary, Meg Whitman took great delight in launching even more intensive efforts in the innovation, invention and creation of the next 75 years.
