HP Storage Integration Services: 200 mph the safe way

By Patrick Porto, HP Technology Services

A Lamborghini Diablo costs more than $200,000 and has a top speed of more than 200 miles per hour. Few drivers would be able to put that much speed and power to effective use or even have the skill to attain it. But I’m guessing if you spent that much for a car, you would have to take it somewhere, to a track, say, and, just one time, see how fast you could go.

I was thinking about that, because I was thinking about storage. (Well, I’m a storage guy, so I think a lot about storage.)

Today’s storage systems are more powerful and flexible than ever. They give us the tools to store vast amounts of data in ways that deliver the right level of access and protection for every application. It’s a good thing, too. If you’re like most enterprises, you spend up to 25 percent of your IT budget on storage. And last year IDC reported that storage associated with Big Data initiatives was growing at more than 50% annually. Getting the most efficiency out of it can save you millions of dollars over a few years. So while your business need for a Lamborghini is probably questionable, most enterprises desperately need powerful storage systems, and they need to operate them as efficiently as possible to get the most out of every dollar spent.

That’s what HP Storage Integration Services are helping our customers do.

Getting the most value out of storage systems means starting with an understanding of the business and IT factors that drove acquisition of the system in the first place. Then we tune the storage system to best meet those needs. You have to factor in future requirements, so you can deliver what the business needs when they need it. It also means integrating storage into the rest of your IT environment to enable efficient operations. You want to avoid preventable problems and have a good plan for responding if problems do occur. So we develop an implementation and operation roadmap to achieve your goals while reducing risk and cost.

Our consultants bring together the two things it takes to achieve that: in-depth technical understanding of the systems, and experience working with thousands of installations. No one knows our systems like we do, and we bring the experience gained helping thousands of HP storage customers become successful with their HP storage systems. If you can afford a Lamborghini, good for you. I hope you can put all of that horsepower to good use—safely, of course. If you’re buying HP storage systems, I know we can help you get the most out of your investment while reducing cost and risk.
