Helping you master the megatrends: Meet Tom Norton

Quick, what would you say are the top megatrends in enterprise IT?

Analysts at Gartner, Forbes and IDC have identified a couple of dozen priorities for CIOs, ranging from simplifying IT to virtualization to mobility. Tom Norton, HP’s VP for Big Data Services, boils it all down to two megatrends: the Cloud delivery model, rapidly becoming “the business of IT”; and IT transformation for Big Data.

Tom was at HP Discover 2013 in Las Vegas in June, explaining how companies can derive value from Cloud and Big Data innovations. Both trends come with their own challenges and the potential to keep CIOs up at night, Tom noted in a session he presented together with Ewald Comhaire, Senior Director of HP Converged Cloud Services. To learn how you can help your CIO sleep better, see the slides from the session, below.

In a panel discussion led by analyst Dana Gardner, Tom took a deeper look at the new HP HAVEn big data platform and how new services from HP can help enterprises accelerate the transformation of their BI systems so that decision-makers can have “relevant and refined information available to them at the time they need it, whether it’s 1.5 seconds or 15 hours.” You can download the podcast here:

And on the Cloud side, check out a second Dana Gardner panel discussion in which Tom delves into the Converged Cloud news from the Las Vegas conference and why new HP Cloud consulting services are key to a successful cloud transformation: “Ranging from the strategy piece and design, all the way through the support structures, it's important to get ahead of that and make it part of your planning process and part of your overall IT business plan, if you're going to take the best benefit you can get from the cloud, both from a consumption and a presentation perspective.”
