How do you know an HP consultant?
The year is 2007. It’s the end of a long day in the field and I'm on to the next city. There is a group of impeccably dressed, beautifully coiffed men and women loitering around a gate agent who's preparing to board passengers onto an aircraft. They reek of success and ooze confidence. My colleague turns to me and in a slightly dejected voice says just one word: consultants. No, can't be, I replied. Investment bankers, lawyers, maybe even sales executives, but not consultants. Where are the pocket protectors? The bags full of gear? The polo shirts decorated with company names and logos? That's what our intrepid HP consultants looked like, and if those guys were consultants, then the fashion bar had just been irrevocably raised.
At that time, HP consultants were largely working in data centers where we'd be rolling up our sleeves and crawling around under desks looking for outlets, network drops or power strips. We were installing blades, not speaking to executive boards. Our clients loved us, and we oozed 'geek' rather than polished success.
Fast forward to today. It's a new world of HP technology consulting and a new breed of HP consultant. Sure, we're still in the data center, but with a new confidence that comes from knowing that we can do something that no other company can do. We have created services for CIOs and other C-level executives—e.g. Strategic IT Advisory Services, Hybrid Delivery Strategy, Business Value of IT —so now we're in the board room as well. We've upgraded our wardrobes and walk with a swagger.
About a year ago, HP expanded its services footprint into consulting by establishing the next generation of HP Technical Consulting. An important upgrade to the consulting portfolio included consulting around domains such as IT strategy, transformation, business value, mergers & acquisitions. HP did this because our clients told us that selecting and implementing the right technology was’t the hard part of IT. Rather it was linking business goals with IT, and transforming their IT organizations from providing support to truly empowering the business with technology. HP consultants are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between these two forces because we not only have access to the depth and breadth of the largest technology company in the world, we also have consulted with hundreds of clients and are able to move beyond the theoretical and discuss best-practices as applied to the real-world.
HP consultants are now on the vanguard of transforming enterprise IT into the next generation. Our consultants are smart, poised and experienced. Next time you're walking through an airport and see a group of polished, successful people loitering around the boarding gate, don't think 'consultant.' Think 'HP consultant.’ Check out our technology experts and you’ll see what I mean.
