Scrap old iron for the New Style of IT

It’s big, ugly, requires two hydro-electric dams to power it and generates enough heat to melt glaciers. Ok, the last two are exaggerations, but just barely. Anyway, whatever its faults, you love it. Your mainframe has served you faithfully for years, performing tasks that were way beyond the capability of other platforms. There’s no question it helped you get your business to where it is now. The BIG question is whether it can take your business to where it needs to go in the years to come.

Unfortunately, the answer is probably “no.” Is there any way to move to a new platform without high costs, elevated risks, and unacceptable disruptions to your business? Happily, the answer is definitely “yes” with HP IT Modernization solutions.

Know where you are going before you start
The most successful modernization journeys start with a clear understanding of where you are, where you want to go, and the best means of getting there. That’s exactly what you get with the HP Platform Advisory Workshop.

This service provides a foundation to help you consolidate your workloads, consider the latest technology platforms, and migrate to the most ideal one. HP experts work closely with you to develop a roadmap that best fits your needs, identify cost savings, and provide the flexibility you need. During the session, we’ll address the following questions:

  • Is your current platform meeting your IT and business requirements or does it need to be optimized?
  • If you need to migrate to a new platform now or in the future, what are the options?
  • How can you mitigate the risk of doing a migration, and how long will the process be?
  • What will it cost, and what will the returns be on your investment?

Once we have information on your current environment and business requirements, we create a:

  • Roadmap outline that enables you to visualize a risk-mitigated migration path for your applications, tools, and processes. The roadmap also charts a long-term business and technical path
  • Environment landscape that provides greater visibility on how to best run your modernization/migration programs and identifies key success criteria, technology patterns, optimized resource models, and skills requirements.
  • Application stack assessment that identifies the workloads, applications, and databases that can be run on the target platform (HP-UX, Linux, OpenVMS, and Windows). It also provides a high-level timeline of the migration approach and process.
  • Risk assessment report that outlines your key areas of risk and recommends mitigation steps for a seamless transition and enhanced user experience.

All activities and plans are based on industry best practices and return on investment data to ensure the modernization/migration program delivers what you expect and need.
